A to Z Challenge Day 2: Books

I love books.  LOVE them.  I can't remember how old I was when I learned to read, or what my first book was, or even what my first favorite was, but I know that for as long as I can remember, I have loved books.

There aren't many things or people I can count on in life, but I can always count on books.  I know it may sound ridiculous to people who don't love to read, but for those of you who do, you'll probably understand what I mean when I say books are like friends.  They're always there for you, they never let you down, and you can always count on them.  With a good book, you can escape into a magical, fantastical, make-believe world that feels like it was created just for you.  You can lose yourself, relate to characters, laugh, cry, fall in love, be entertained, learn something new, believe in magic again, and sometimes, if you're lucky, be left completely changed.

Some people go to church to find inner peace; I go to the library.  I'm happy the moment I enter the library and I'm surrounded by all those beautiful books with their magical worlds that are just waiting to be discovered.

I will read just about anything.  Some of my favorite genres are romance, mystery, paranormal, science fiction, and young adult (in any of the aforementioned genres).  I also love myth, folklore and Arthurian legend.  There's not much I won't read, but I do have my favorites, both in genres and authors.

Some of my all-time favorite books:
The entire Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbit
The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho
The Sugar Queen - Sarah Addison Allen
The Year of Living Famously - Laura Caldwell
PS I Love You - Cecelia Ahern
U2: At the End of the World - Bill Flanagan
The Gift - Cecelia Ahern
The Girl Who Chased the Moon - Sarah Addison Allen
Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer

I also love pretty much anything by Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich and Heather Graham.

Saturday is usually my library day, so I'm heading off in a bit.  I go, sit in a comfy chair by the window with a book, and read for a couple of hours.  Sometimes I take a notepad and pen and do my writing there, where it's quiet, surrounded by thousands of books and millions of words.  Today I'm picking up 4 books I have on hold (which I talked about in this blog post) - 4 authors that are new to me, part of my goal to branch out and read new authors.  I'd go to the library every day if I could but the whole 'starving artist' things means I don't usually have money for bus fair, so my little piece of booky heaven is reserved for Saturdays, at least for now.

Does anyone else share my obsessive love of books and reading?  Tell me about it!  All other comments are welcome of course - I love comments!  Thanks to those who stop by to visit and read, and I hope you have a great Saturday!

  2. I do love books and have tons of them. The biggest problem is that I don't read enough--books that is. Seems like lately it's either books or blogging and in April I guess it's definitely going to be blogging.

Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during challenge I will not be doing so during April. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.
    Thanks.

  3. I'm mad for books. If I don't have a book or four on the go I feel discombobulated. That's why I write - I want someone to not be able to wait to get back to my book!
