This week's discussion topic:
What do you love about Robin Hood?

What do I love about Robin Hood? Well, I love the basic concept: an outlaw - someone who lives outside the confines of the law - but for a noble reason. From the stories I’ve read and seen, he’s such a gallant figure. Sure, there are unfavourable stories about him, but I prefer the stories of him as someone fighting against tyranny, performing noble deeds, and helping people in need.

My favourite version of Robin Hood is the Disney version (which I’ll actually be talking more about in my post next week when the topic is our favourite Robin Hood incarnation), and I love this conversation between Robin Hood and Little John:

Little John: “You know something, Robin, I was just wonderin…are we good guys or bad guys? You know, I mean, our robbin’ the rich to feed the poor.”
Robin Hood: “Rob? Tsk tsk tsk. That’s a naughty word, we never rob. We just…sort of borrow a bit from those who can afford it.”

I guess as someone with a boundless imagination, Robin Hood has always appealed to me, not only as a romantic, heroic figure, but also as someone who's clearly very clever and crafty. He lived in Sherwood Forest, outsmarted the sheriff of Nottingham, Prince John, and his men, and found ways to steal from the rich and give back to those who were being overtaxed by a greedy, tyrannical ruler. Plus, I'm not gonna lie...he's really sexy, and I'd love to be his Maid Marian and live in Sherwood Forest. ;-)

  1. I love Disney's Robin Hood, too. I also love Little John's reply to Robin in that scene:

"Borrow? Boy, are we in debt!"

  2. Okay, I need to go to the library and find the Disney version so that I'm no longer out of the loop there. What is it with Disney movies and me not seeing them all? There's something wrong with that.

But YES completely agree. "Fighting against tyranny, performing noble deeds, and helping people in need." Indeed! :D
