Stacking the Shelves + What's Happening August 3rd

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews

Happy August, fellow book lovers! I can't believe July is over. The summer is flying by!

I managed to somewhat reign in my one-click obsession this week and I only bought three ebooks (if you visited last week, you might remember that I had one-clicked 16 ebooks). The other books I bought were from my library's bookstore. The money goes back to the library, so it's for a good cause. I always feel better when I can justify my book buying, especially since I'm officially out of shelf space and I'm now putting books in weird, random places all over my apartment. I was joking the other day that I'm going to have to buy a house just for all my books.

FOR REVIEW:
From the amazing Simon & Schuster Canada
Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano {GoodReads}
Eeep! I'm so excited about this book. Plus, the cover? Gorgeous. The inside of the book is beautiful too, which you don't always see in ARCs. I'm sure I'm going to get yelled at for saying this, but this will be my first DeStefano book. I know, I know, I'll read Wither soon, I promise. Actually, weird story there: last year I requested Wither from my library and it was in transit from the next town over (my library has a network of three semi-local libraries we can request books from) and the truck that brings the books got into an accident and all the books were ruined. So I would have read Wither last year if it weren't for that. I felt so horrible for the guy driving the truck...and I won't lie, I was sad for all those ruined books too.

WON:
From Bonnie at Words at Home: How I Lost You by Janet Gurtler {GoodReads}
From Michelle at Much Loved Books: Signed AG Howard swag (Splintered is one of my favourite books ever, so I'm so excited to have won signed swag!)

BOUGHT:
Secrets in the Blood by Kymber C Hawke {GoodReads}
Lost & Found by Nicole Williams {GoodReads}
Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park {GoodReads}
The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielsen {GoodReads}
Gone by Michael Grant {GoodReads}
The Secret of NIMH by Robert C O’Brien {GoodReads}
Real Mermaids Don’t Hold Their Breath by Helene Boudreau {GoodReads}

*A big thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada, Bonnie, Michelle (and AG Howard)*

  • It was a pretty quiet week this week, but I did have one really exciting thing going on not only here, but across the blogosphere as well: my third novel, WAITING FOR THE STORM was on tour this week! The tour started Monday and ends today. I celebrated by hosting a giveaway for a book up to $12USD; it was supposed to end today but I've extended it to tomorrow (Sunday) so that people stopping by for Stacking the Shelves can enter if they want to. I've also extended the 99 cent sale price of the book until tomorrow. The reviews for the book were overwhelmingly positive (and I do mean overwhelmingly...I'm a big ol' sap and cried so many times this week lol), plus every blog on the tour is hosting a giveaway for an ecopy, so there's literally dozens of chances to win. If you visit Xpresso Book Tours, there's a list of direct links to each blog that participated. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read and review the book, and also to all the people who have tweeted about the tour, the sale, and the giveaway. I appreciate it so much!

  • My long-time friend Kymber C Hawke released her first novel, Secrets in the Blood, this week. I did a little spotlight on the book (which I beta read and designed the cover for) along with a giveaway, so be sure to check it out!

  • I'm participating in ARC August. I'm getting behind in my review books, so I'm hoping to make a dent (if not get completely caught up *cough* yeah right *cough*) this month

How was your week? Did you get any new books? Have you read any good ones that you'd recommend? Tell me in the comments below or post a link to your Stacking the Shelves/Book Haul/In My Mailbox/Showcase Sunday, etc. Happy reading! <3

  2. Oh I am SO envious that you got Perfect Ruin. I just adore this cover SO much. It's been a really quiet week here (No internet can do that to ya) I finished 6 books though. Some I loved and some I just did not like at all. My double STS will be up this Sunday.

  3. That's so sad what happened to the library books. Apparently you weren't meant to read Wither yet. Hopefully you enjoy this. It is beautiful.

  4. Perfect Ruin has a totally lovely cover. And Lauren is a very gifted writer.

    I'm so happy your tour has gone so well. I've been following each day and reading the reviews. :)

    As for the one click thing, yeah, I'm bad for that too. But give me 1 clicking eBooks over buying 10 new physical books. The space! It kills me!

    And that's majorly sad about the train with library books. BUT I have the entire Chemical Garden trilogy and would be happy to give it to you in Nov. (Remind me!) Beautiful writing, but I know I'm not gonna get to the rest of them, if I'm honest.

    Have a great week! :)

  6. I had no idea Lauren DeStefano had a new book out. Although I still have yet to read Sever, but so far I really enjoyed the series. I guess knowing she has a new one out will inspire me to finally finish the trilogy.

  10. So jealous of Perfect Ruin. That cover is so striking and it's about a floating cloud city! I've heard good things about Flat Out Love, but have never got around to reading. I try to stay off Amazon if I can help it to stave off any click-happiness. I love library sales! They're always the best. Great haul!

  15. I was glad to see all the wonderful reviews of WFTS. Why? Because it was freaking awesome and it deserves it! And so do YOU because of it. Hopefully it was the right kind of kick that the book needed to give it more attention. Plus the winners of an ebook copy will provide some more reviews. It's all win-win! :D

  16. So much awesome all in one post! I'm so jealous that you got a copy of Perfect Ruin, that books sounds SO amazing. Although it's sad you weren't able to read Wither because of a truck crash. ='( I have The False Prince sitting on my shelf, and I really need to pick it up soon. I've also recently had some issues with buying a ton of e-books, so I can only relate. ;) It's great that you limited yourself to three this week!

    Also, congratulations on such success with your books! <3 And good luck with ARC August. =)

  19. OMG I'd love love love to read Perfect Ruin!!! Lucky you! And you should really give Wither a try - the writing is gorgeous. I'd didn't like Fever as much but I'll still read the next one once it's out in the edition that matches my other books.
    Enjoy all your new pretties, and thanks for stopping by!
