Cover Reveal: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Today I'm super excited to share with you all the cover of my upcoming holiday novella, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. I wrote this book last December and I've been waiting anxiously all year to finally share it with you guys. The book will be released November 5th everywhere ebooks are sold, and will be available for preorder on Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Apple (sorry Kindle users, Amazon doesn't offer preorders for indie authors, although I'm ever hopeful they eventually will) in the next week or so.

So...without any further ado, I give you my newest book cover!

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, right? At least that’s what twenty-year-old Ginny Bailey’s grandmother always told her, and Ginny believed it until Grama died. She even put on a brave face the following two Christmases, carrying on Grama’s traditions and decorating her house and cafĂ© with Grama’s favorite decorations.
But Ginny can’t pretend any longer. When she finds out she’s going to be alone for the holidays this year, her Christmas spirit goes out the window, along with her luck. Everything that can go wrong does, and Ginny just wants to spend the holidays hiding under the covers...until Dean Riley comes back into her life. With a shared past, old feelings begin to resurface almost immediately, and Ginny thinks Dean might just be the Christmas miracle she’s been waiting for to help her remember why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.

  1. I think $0.99 since it is a novella.

  2. I can't quite see where the topic of price came up, but I'll give my two cents.

To me, it depends on several factors. How much are an author's full length works? Is this a short story < 7.5k, a Novelette < 20k, a Novella < 45k, or a novel?

I have a friend who has short stories, novellas and a novel. His shorts are .99, his two novellas are $3 each and his novel is $5. He's doing quite well. He writes fantasy.

There is also the fact that this novella is seasonal. I'm not an expert on this kinda thing, but it may or may not sell as well after the holidays.

Another consideration is "What do you want this novella to do for your career?". By this I mean: are you hoping to use it as a way to introduce people to your writing? Is it meant mainly as a holiday promotional tool? Did you write it, to an extent, as a gift for existing fans? All of these might result in different sales and marketing strategies. (My apologies if I sound totally crass here. I'm not a huge fan of thinking about the 'business' part of being an author. But we do need to think about it.)

FWIW, there would technically be nothing 'wrong' with charging 0.99 for it if it's a shorter piece. But there would be equally nothing wrong with charging a little more if it's longer. Think about where you want it to fit with the rest of your books and go from there.

Good luck! :) (And BTW, very pretty cover / my post will be up Thursday.) :)
