I think a lot of older people think mental illnesses are made up, or they're completely ignorant about them because it just wasn't something that was talked about, except maybe in hushed tones. And a lot of times, if a person had any mental health issues they were automatically labelled 'crazy' or 'a lunatic'. Or women were 'hysterical'. I hope people talking about it openly and honestly will help open those peoples' minds as well as help the people dealing with it. I'm glad talking about it helps you and that you're learning to kind to yourself. <3

I will definitely check out the Ruby Oliver books - thank you!SweetMarie83https://www.blogger.com/profile/12518239232924662332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6825931548219116513.post-6489308316283644522017-05-23T13:59:53.982-04:002017-05-23T13:59:53.982-04:00Love the post today! She's great, don't get me wrong, but her generation and upbringing just didn't believe in things like anxiety and depression. Because of that I am way too hard on myself and am constantly telling myself to just buck up and snap out of it. Luckily I have people in my life who've helped me see that depression and anxiety and panic attacks are not made up issues to get attention. I'm still learning to be kind to myself but just talking about it with others that get it helps.
Another set of books that deal with this topic are the Ruby Oliver books. They're a bit silly and light hearted but the MC is dealing with panic attacks and some other issues too. I loved them! Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05738740015526095835noreply@blogger.com
